Despite being uncommon, the Returning Pike has the potential to be one of the strongest weapons in Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3. Here's how to get it.

Players have to follow some specific actions to unlock the Returning Pike in Baldur’s Gate 3, though it is not too hard. However, you will still need to get past a few Charisma checks and be friendly with a faction to purchase the Pike. You can get the Returning Pike during the game's first Act itself. The reason you might want to get this Pike is because it has impressive offensive stats that can come in handy during the game's early stages.

As the name suggests, this Pile can automatically return to its user when thrown, thanks to the Homing Weapon perk. This makes it a perfect weapon to use when your character moves close enough for melee attacks. Since this is sort of a ranged weapon, your character will be in less tricky situations than with other weapons that require you to get close. Aside from Monks in Baldur’s Gate 3, most other classes are at a Disadvantage when unarmed, so having a weapon that can be thrown and returned is quite remarkable.

To get the Returning Pile, you will need to head into the Goblin Camp in Baldur's Gate 3. You will eventually encounter the camp after exploring Emerald Grove since a quest will require you to rescue Halson or join forces with the Goblins. After getting through the Blighted Village, you must cross the bridge and head over to the Goblin Camp, where you will have to persuade the guard to allow you to enter with one of several methods.

If you attack the Goblins, you will be unable to purchase the Pike. You can persuade, intimidate, and even use your Illithid powers to get past the first goblin guard at the entrance to the fortress. Once you are clear, head towards the courtyard, where you will also see a captured Volo. In the vicinity, you will need to locate a vendor called Grat the Trader. This merchant is willing to part ways with the Returning Pike for around 100 Gold.

If you kill Grat the Trader, the Returning Pike will NOT be lootable, so if you really want the weapon, you will have to buy it from him first.

In the game's early stages, that amount of money may seem like a lot, but it can prove to be a fair investment. The Returning Pike is an excellent option for certain Barbarian builds in BG3, which can be applied to Karlach and your custom character for high damage at a long distance. While better weapons are in the game, this is easily one of the best weapons in Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3.
